According to the "League Tables of UK Schools," Kingston Grammar School has consistently ranked among the top ten private full-time co-educational schools in the UK.

The origins of Kingston Grammar School date back to the 16th century, when it was established by the royal charter in 1561 and named "Queen Elizabeth's School." The school was renamed "Kingston Grammar School" in 1904. Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom has visited Kingston Grammar School twice, in 1961 (to mark the 400th anniversary of the royal charter) and in 2005, where she officiated the naming ceremony of the school's arts building.

Over 77% of graduates achieved A*/A grades in A-level examinations, and more than 81% of graduates successfully enrolled in top universities such as Cambridge, Oxford, and Russell Group universities for further studies. In 2022, 92% of graduates achieved A*-B grades.

With an almost fanatical demand for literature and language over seven centuries, Kingston Grammar School has nurtured numerous giants of British literature. The most famous alumnus is undoubtedly Edward Gibbon, the father of literary historiography. Edward Gibbon (1737-1794) graduated from Kingston Grammar School and is an outstanding historian of modern Britain, an excellent representative of European Enlightenment historiography in the 18th century, and is known as the father of British literature and historiography.

Kingston Grammar School has also demonstrated significant strength in sports. As one of the seed training bases for national rowing, hockey, and other sports, it has nurtured dozens of Olympic gold medalists, including Stanley Shoveller, the gold medalist in hockey at the 1908 and 1920 Olympics, as well as Olympic rowing gold medalists James Cracknell and Sophie Hosking.
